Frequently Asked Questions
I want Green Pond Creative to design my website. What do I do now?
Great! We’re excited to work with you. First, you will choose a package that works best for you. Fill out this form and let us know which package you’d like, along with any other information you think would be good to share with us (just keep it pertaining to your site. We don’t need to know what you ate for dinner last night.) We will then send you a planning worksheet. Fill it out and send it back along with your deposit (half the final package price plus any a la carte options). Then we’ll get down to business designing a masterpiece for your home on the web!
WordPress is most commonly known as a blogging platform, but it does so much more than just house your thoughts for publication on the web. WordPress is an open source blog publishing application and content management system (CMS) that allows you to update and edit the information on your website. The user interface is very intuitive and user-friendly. We are also able to install our favorite plugins to optimize things like website security and search engine optimization (SEO).
Are we bound for life in the website owner / website designer relationship?
Nope. We can take a completely hands-on OR hands-off approach to the maintenance of your website once the design has been completed. Our Frog and Whole Pond packages include a tutorial video so you can learn how to update and edit your website all by yourself. But should you need us, we’ll always be here for you. We offer monthly maintenance plans or a la carte options for updates.
How do I buy a domain name?
GoDaddy.com is one of the best places on the web to buy your domain name. Search for the name you want (www.examplesite.com or www.howdoesthiswork.net). Once you’ve decided on an available web address, follow the instructions for creating a GoDaddy account (write down your username & password so you don’t lose it! We’ll need that later) and purchase that url.
What is hosting and how do I set it up?
Once you’ve purchased your domain name, you’ll need to sign up with a company to host your website on their servers. We recommend HostGator as a reliable, up-to-date, green hosting company that plays nicely with WordPress. Visit HostGator.com and sign up for web hosting (save your username, password, & ftp details so you don’t lose it! We’ll need that later). Once you receive confirmation of your purchase, we’ll take it from there to set up your website with your new domain name and hosting account.
Can you create a website that will advertise my business, play the banjo, and cook my dinner for me at the same time?
Erm, not so much. We’re designers, not magicians! There are developers who are focused on learning all the latest code trends to make websites do some pretty fancy stuff (gourmet dishes not included). And while we pride ourselves in creating a harmonious hybrid of design & functionality, we rely on awesome WordPress templates (the functionality part) created by those same talented developers. That way we can focus on telling the story of your business or brand through design.
